E-News June 4 2019

FSOMA has been contacted by several members with information regarding policy changes made by certain radiology companies that no longer accept imaging referrals from Licensed Acupuncturists in Florida.

FSOMA is now acting on behalf of Acupuncturists throughout the State and seeking clarification from this major radiology service provider to better understand their policy position.  FSOMA is working on behalf of the membership and the profession to ensure that Florida Licensed Acupuncturists are able to provide patients laboratory and imaging referrals as permitted and authorized under F.S. 457, referenced in FAC 64B1-4.008 and specified in 64B1-4.010.  We will update you as more is learned.

On a related note, FSOMA has affiliated with DHA Labs for APs to sign up with them for lab orders and testing.  They offer a wide range of testing services.  To find out more you can download the application form which has their contact information. Click here.

Did you know that Acupuncture Injection Therapy requirements have been moved to the schools? There is no longer a "Certification" requirement. This means the AOM Schools are having to offer the course prior to graduation and incoming APs licensed after Dec 2018 will be required to have AIT training. Basically the Joint Administrative Procedures Committee - a Legislative Oversight Committee known as JAPC, told the Board of Acupuncture several years ago that if Licensed Acupuncturists could perform AIT there was no need to have a "Certification".  The BOA then developed a rule requiring the training prior to licensing.

Current licensees are not affected, you cannot perform AIT without being trained.

Thank you
